ACTUAL POST DATE: 16/8/05
I finished this post at 03:40 and it is long (the post I mean), I advise, get a drink, a snack and/or break this one up into smaller easier sections as you wish. Good night.

Well, the internet is down and so I write this post in word, ready to upload at the next convenient time.

I’m not sure exactly what I said in the last post – as at this stage I cannot re-read it however I will try to continue where I left off.

Thursday 28th July, Day 2, Howard Daily Rating: 10/10:

Thursday was a nice relaxing morning which was really needed after the long day which had preceded it. Come the late afternoon, early evening however, we went up to the circuit to see if we could get in for the pit walk – we did, it was absolutely brilliant and rekindled a love for Formula 1 that I was beginning to lose thanks to the problems that the sport is having at the moment, that said – I was never going to abandon it, it’s the only sport I follow and I’m too lazy to learn about a new sport (even if I know very little about my current choice!)

Anyway, got into the track, and stood on turn 1, and generally got over excited by it all as we headed to the pit lane. The disappointing part was that Gareth, still unenthused by the whole event, didn’t even try to get in just saying that we wouldn’t get to the front of the huge queue – he should have come, he would have loved it, I’m gutted on his behalf!

Once in the pit lane, they were moving a Minardi and to cut a long story short:

Minardi moving, people parted to make space, I was at the front, the back wheel of the Minardi although raised, went over my foot – yes, I was run over by a Minardi! YEY!

Right, what else, we enjoyed a thoroughly brilliant day for which Howard started a whole rating system:

“I’d give today TEN OUTA TEN!”
Howard Jackson, 2005

But what else, what else?!

Anyway that’s all the notes I had on my phone for that day, so we move on to the next.

Friday 29th July, Day 3, Howard Daily Rating: 7/10:

Start of the day, knackered. Who’s fault? Probably mine. We all stayed up and talked most of the night which I was a large part of, you know how I ramble on, I’m doing it now, and you’re just a blog! What a brilliantly funny night though, a good bonding (not bondage) session

We got up fairly early because it was day 1 of the Formula 1 – Practice sessions 1 and 2 (although Gareth opted out to go look around the city). Greg, Howard and myself of course we wanted to look around the track and get some idea of where we might sit/stand for the all important, qualifying and race and so once we were there, we walked around the track and picked what we thought to be the best spot for race day (How knackering was that? It’s rhetorical, so I’ll answer for you – VERY KNACKERING!!!

We saw the practice sessions and heard the cars as they changed gear with mini explosions of thunder. How amazing. And of course then we went around all the stalls etc. where we saw a nice looking Ferrari girl, I of course asked for a photo, expecting her to say:

hwhyudontnyougpissaoffrfattyy – which is Hungarian for:
“Ok fat boy, have a picture and then piss off!”

But instead she was please to hear someone speaking English (as she was from London). I of course capitalised on being one of the few English speaking people and said:

“Thanks for the picture, bye” – smooth huh ;)

Anyway, after having a drink and a cool down in the shade, meeting the prancing horse girl (no, it’s endearing – really) we headed back to the most rammed bus in the world to cuddle into a big mans sweaty armpit for the journey back – how lovely.

Saturday 30st July, Day 4, Howard Daily Rating: 9/10:

We had a little more sleep tonight and headed up to the track for qualifying, thoroughly gripping and exciting. We also saw the first race of the weekend; a GP2 race. After which, I went and checked that I hadn’t imagined the Ferrari girl, I hadn’t – she was still there and still pretty hot and I don’t just mean because it was 41 degree’s – did I capitalise this time? YES! I walked past her to the drinks stand – Once again, I am so smooth. You are jealous, well don’t be. You too could have charm and wit like mine!

My notes then also say something about a meal – I cannot recall this, but it must have been good otherwise why would I type it into my phone?!

Anyway, then was the nail clippings incident where Howard was about to cover Greg in nail clippings – needless to say, he didn’t but it was a pretty horrendous moment when the other 3 of us realised what he had almost just done. Gross!

And then finally, we played the goodnight game.

What? Want to know how to play? Ok:

Sunday 31st July, Day 5 (Race Day), Howard Daily Rating: 10/10:

So the first thing to know about race day is that we were up at 06:00 – yes, too effing early for anything but we had to get there early to get a good view so we went before the buses started – and paid for a taxi – clever huh?

So the taxi driver (the only one the woman in the hostel would book cos she was a div!) got lost and we, the foreign people visiting his country had to direct him – how lame!

Anyway, upon arriving, we got a space in the section we agreed before pondering (and moving to) a new space which looked nicer but we hadn’t noticed it before and so hadn’t tried it. Frustration kicks in when we realise that we couldn’t see anything in the GP2 race as everyone in front stood up – should have guessed really but having not guessed, we started to get panicky and frustrated. We’d come all the way to Hungary and were going to have a shite view – how depressing. Why didn’t we stay in our original place? Well, come race time, the anguish ended – everyone else pushed in, so we did too and ended up with an amazing view of the final complex, grid and a large part of the straight and the pit lane! Oh Yeah, you like that? A happy ending!

Again, here my notes say – food and chat – it was absolutely brilliant food and a thrilling chat – however I remember none of it! Sorry.

Monday 1st August, Day 6, Howard Daily Rating: 8/10:

Oh how lovely a nice lay in was on this splendiferous day. We went out looking around the city starting at Subway, finding Sir Lancelot’s (where I really wanted to go and eat in medieval style!) before we split up.

Greg and Howard went off together, Gareth went off somewhere, and I ambled alone. I couldn’t find the skirt which I’d seen in the shop window and wanted to buy for Sarah but I did find a sex shop. I went in; I had a look and came out disgusted. What a crap selection! A few lame dildo’s and a load of porn DVD’s – I’d been intrigued from the outside but at least I know that they are pretty crap. I only stayed in there no more than 2 minutes and then went back to the hostel to cool down from the ridiculous heat.

Greg and Howard came back about 20-30 minutes after me informing us that they were almost mugged. We all got ready and left for Lancelot’s but the journey was delayed with a bus mistake – I’ll say no more on the matter, I’ll just say that in reflecting, it’s very funny.

Sir Lancelot’s: There were no forks in medieval times, hence there are no forks in medieval times, nor chips but apparently their were extremely attractive serving wenches, belly dancers, rather large jugs (to drink from) and a lot of laughs – I do like themed restaurants. I was happy.

Tuesday 2nd August, Day 7, Howard Daily Rating 7/10:

Split up again today, Howard and I went to a large shopping area in the north of the city (where I wanted to look for a skirt for Sarah and Howard just wanted to wander along with me and go with the flow).

After looking around and Howard measuring skirts up for himself – quite a bizarre moment really – I found one and got what I thought to be Sarah’s size (in European, Jees! I got I right, YES!) And we left to meet Greg (and Gareth?) where we had arranged (but not before I bought a 2nd skirt!)

Now, with Greg, (not Gareth though, apparently he arrived about 5 minutes after we had left – he said he may not be coming so waiting to quarter past was fair wasn’t it? I don’t bloody know) we headed for a market (down the south of the city where I bought my Army hat, and some shades (I will update you about these later!).

We then headed up to the statue of freedom (or whatever the ‘leaf above her head woman’ is called) which was quite a hike up a mountain but worth it for the amazing view of the city!

And what else?

Well, there it is, that’s what happened in a rather factual, list like type of recollection of Budapest, Hungary. (my opinion=fact)

What a brilliant trip and I thank the 3 lads with me for making it what it was. It would most definitely not have been the same without daily ratings, bus mistakes, complaining about the heat, the cable guy, mooning, film and music facts and guessing games and the general banter.

Thank you all. Which one next year? I’m excited already.

Well, there is so much to write that i've had to note it all down on my mobile phone and blog it as and when i've had the chance... so here is part 1!

Day 1/7

Wednesday we arrived in Hungary, and got a taxi to the hostel, no problems there then. But what has happened at the end of the first day?

Well, the hostel is very nice although there is no air conditioning so it is bloody hot! We've all got our beds sorted, with Howard and Greg sharing a bunk (Howard on top - this will become important later in the week) but come bed time, the first night, i already have so much to report.

A bus fine cost us 2000HUF (approx 6.50) when we tried to ride the bus for free! We didn't know how to get tickets so we thought we'd get on! But the way they got us was great, they have undercover bus conductors or as i've just decided to name them, 'the bus police' where they get on as passengers, whip out a red thing which is thier ID and then start asking to see tickets - It's trully a good thing to witness!

We missed a stop at the end of the night (waiting for the bus to spin round, but apparently it doesn't do that on the last trip!) and had to walk back from the outskirts of the city already all knackered having only had an hour or so sleep!

Did i mention it was hot here?

The girls here all have amazing bodies with amazing tans, they are increadibly beautiful and i seem to notice a lot of couples around - Is this me missing Sarah?

In bed, sharing a room, we notice the only English speaking channel is Eurosport where they play the most amazing ring tone advert which we've named the drunken moose! He's laying in a paddling pool singing and then just collapses. Don't get me wrong, i usually hate these adverts and despise the crazy frog but this was funny especially when you are that tired.

Gareth decided to eat his midnight snack (a pan o chocalate) which he then made me try as it was gross - It was, it was more like pan o caviar! It tasted as i'd imagine filth would tase but there was nothing i could do about it so that brings the story of the first day to an abrupt halt - i'll continue the run down soon.

For now, take care, see you soon.
